Overview
The new Promotional Codes page in the Seller Portal enables you to generate custom discount codes for customers to use at checkout.
This type of promotion is ideal for reaching specific customers.
This guide will walk you through how to create, manage, and optimise the use of your promotional codes.
Type of Promotional Code
These can be applied to your order packing slips or manually distributed through other channels, such as social media, 1:1 messages, or email campaigns.
For now there are two type of promotion codes you can create.
1. Packing Slip Promotional Codes:
To help bring order recipients back to order from you, you can enable a packing slip promotional code. If created your Yumbles order packing slips will show order recipients a special message and QR code to lead them straight to your Yumbles shop to receive a special "gift" from you.
Example packing slip when a seller has an active promotional code:
When customers scan the QR code they will land on your Yumbles shop page and be shown your code that they can enter at checkout.
If you do NOT enable a packing slip promotional code this QR code on the slip leading them to your shop will not be shown.
We strongly recommend that you minimally enable a packing slip promotion code as a great way to increase order recipients shopping (again) from you.
2. Manual Distribution Codes:
This type enables you to create promotional codes to distribute yourself to specific customers/ groups.
For example:
- to share on your social media channels
- as goodwill to customer 1:1 via order messages when order issues happen
- to send to your own email lists
Stay tuned as more distribution channels will be added to target different customer segments (for example elapsed buyers, abandoned baskets etc).
Note: You can only have one active packing slip code but you can create as many manual distribution promotional codes as you need.
Creating a Promotional Codes
- Under the Marketing tab in the Seller Portal you will find the "Promotional Codes" section
- Create a new code by pressing the plus (+) symbol on the top left hand side.
- In type of promotion: choose Packing Slip Code or Manual Distribution Code as needed
- Enter the name of the promotion. This text will be shown to customers when they apply the code at checkout so label it clearly related to the promotion.
- Enter the code that the customers will use. See guidance on Codes below.
- Choose the percentage you want to offer.
- IF you want to limit the use of the code to only be used once per customer then select the checkbox provided for this.
- Save the code.
The promotion code once activated can immediately be used. If you have created a packing slip code then any packing slips you print from that moment will show the QR code for your Yumbles shop and invite the order recipients to get their "surprise".
Guidance on Codes
Codes should be easy to enter: Create a code that ideally is a recognisable word or set of characters to make it as easy as possible for customers to use it. We also recommend not making it too long.
Codes need to be unique: If the code you enter already exists (either by yourself, or another seller or the platform) you will receive a prompt to help you set a different code
Codes are not case-sensitive: however you enter the code customers can use any variation of case at checkout as long as they enter the right characters. For example, if you create the code `discount10`, customers can enter DISCOUNT10, Discount10, discount10 and all variations will work.
Editing Promotional Codes
You can edit a promotional code at anytime and once save the change will take immediate affect.
Manual Distribution Code: If you change the code itself any customers who have the previous version of the code will no longer be able to use it. If you are just changing the name or % then the code will still work, but the new % (or new name) will apply.
Packing Slip Code: Any customers scanning your QR code will see the amended discount and/or code when they come to your Yumbles shop.
Disabling Promotional Codes
When you disable a code, it is immediately rendered inactive, and customers will no longer be able to use it at checkout.
This applies to Packing Slip Codes as well. If you disable a packing slip code, future packing slips printed will no longer display the QR code and message, and any customer with a packing slip that has the QR code when they come to the site they will no longer see your offer.
