You've made fabulous Christmas products but as always with selling online, their sales will depend entirely on how well they are listed.
The listing title, photos, descriptions and tags that you enter will determine both how many customers see your products, and then how many of those then convert to buy them.
Here's our quick guide to 5 of the most important things to tick off when listing your Christmas products.
1. Optimised Product Titles
- Keep them clear and descriptive of what the product is. By all means use your own unique product names to standout but do make sure buyers know immediately what it is, so supplement with some descriptive words too.
- Include the most important search term (keyword) for your product that customers will use to find products like it. E.g. Christmas Hamper, or Chocolate Gift or Stocking Filler.
- Front load the most important keywords in the first 50 characters - so buyers instantly understand what your product is and that it matches what they are looking for.
- If you are selling something in quantity or for a particular size then also add that product detail at the end of the title because it provides important context for customers when comparing your listing and prices to others that they see in the category page or search results they are looking at, e.g Box of 12 or 500ml
2. High Quality Main Product Images
The choice of main image on your listing is absolutely key to maximise your sales:
- The majority of the shot should be the product you are selling.
- It should be instantly recognisable at a glance what the product is, and it matches the listing title.
- Keep additions in the shot like accessories to a minimum, some festive touches can work well but they should not distract from the main focus on the product.
- Light backgrounds consistently perform better.
3. Complete & Structured Descriptions
- Start strong with a compelling, engaging short pitch - what is the item you are selling and why is it special, what is it best for.
- Include naturally in the description a few of the most important keywords customers might use when searching for that kind of product (e.g. "This gluten free Christmas cake..", "The perfect vegan Christmas hamper...", "An ideal stocking filler...").
- Make it easy to scan and read. Use short paragraphs, bullet points for lists, bolded section titles to break up lots of information.
4. Always Include Shelf Life
Assuming your item is perishable, it is absolutely essential for Christmas products to include the shelf life & storage info in the listing descriptions so that customers know when to order for.
5. Listing Items on a Pre-Order Basis
Use the pre-order settings in the listing for products that aren’t ready to ship yet. Find out more about using the Pre Order function here.
