Views are simply a total of how many customers came across your products and chose to take a closer look by clicking to view the product listing page.
This is your first important step in the customer funnel to securing orders - the higher your views the higher your order potential.
Views are determined by numerous factors that can be grouped under 4 headings:
- The nature and extent of your Product Range
- How your product range is listed
- The Discoverability of your products
- Your inclusion in or participation in Marketing
YOUR PRODUCT RANGE
Obvious perhaps but the foundation is ensuring you have a good range of products that are widely appealing to the Yumbles audience listed, and keeping them consistently available to buy year round. (Unless you are a seasonal seller).
List all if not most of your range. If you make lots of products, don't just list one or two and wait and see what happens. You wouldn't get a stall at a major food market with high footfall and try to sell only one of your products at it. You are immediately capping your potential. Not least you run the risk you haven't picked the right one or two products most likely to sell on Yumbles.
Your best seller on Yumbles will not always be the same as your own site. If you are able to list your full range on Yumbles you are giving yourself the best chance to find what products works best on the marketplace.
Views is all about capturing attention so don't limit yourself when there's thousands of shoppers on Yumbles each day looking for all manner of items.
Keep items available. Products coming in and out of stock regularly will, beyond the obvious immediate impact on sales, also affect your future sales as it will affect your ranking (see Discoverability below), and affect your inclusion in marketing (see Marketing below), not to mention returning customers will find new alternatives to favour.
How do your products compare to the alternatives - appeal, USP, price. Take a look within your categories to see the products customers will compare yours to. Is your pricing much higher? Is your USP clear to make them want to click to see your product over others?
Do your research on the marketplace to find product (variant) opportunities. Take a look at the categories on Yumbles and consider what product offering you could have to suit and reach more shoppers. For example if your focus is on gifting - can you create some product variations and target occasions like Birthday Gifts and Thank you Gifts? Do you make branded gifts? Can you bring out seasonal product variations e.g. Autumn Treat Boxes if you are a baker?
HOW YOUR PRODUCTS ARE LISTED
Formats. How you offer your products on Yumbles needs consideration and may have to be different than your own website to be optimal. This is particularly true if you are selling non-gift items. Yumbles is an online marketplace where each of your listings could be discovered and purchased on its own. Don't assume customers will add more than one of your listings to their basket.
If customers are typically buying your products for themselves not gifting, then make sure you include listings that are suited to first time customers trying your products for the first time with good entry level price points. Taster bundles, best seller bundles, pick and mix listings (enabling customers to pick their own bundle of your products using Options all within one listing) are all very successful listing formats for self consumption products particularly where the individual unit prices are under £5.
The Main Photos on your Listings. The main photos you add to your listings are crucial when it comes to inspiring shoppers to click to view your products. That's all you have to get their attention and then make them want to take a closer look beyond your listing title and price. Our photography guide covers the best practice for product imagery that works best online to drive views (and conversions).
Listing Titles. Your listing titles not only impact your product discoverability (see below) they also influence whether a customer who has seen your product chooses to click to view. Can customers understand from the title what you are selling?
- Have a clear and compelling listing title. Make it succinctly descriptive about what you are selling, include the important keyword(s). Not too long so it is hard to read and the key information gets lost or worse, chopped off wherever there are character limits!
- If you are selling a product in quantity make that clear from the title (e.g Set of 6) - if not they might assume the price is per unit and be put off.
Running a Promotion. Price promotions are a tried and tested way to drive views. You can discount specific or all of your products for a period of time using the Sale Promotions tool. If a listing is included in your sale, shoppers will see the original price, the discounted price, and the percentage off you’re offering on your listing in search results. Those listings will also be included in the dedicated Offers page of the site giving you products more exposure to gain views.
Free Shipping. Another type of promotion that is shown to customers on category and search pages and can help drive Views. If you can offer free shipping on your products then be sure to select that within the Shipping tab in your listings. That adds the FREE DELIVERY label on your listings.
Reviews. Shoppers can see your shop’s review star average when browsing category pages and search results. Good reviews let customers know what to expect when they shop with you and help give them confidence to purchase from you. Star ratings of 4 or 5 help attract new buyers and keep them coming back to your shop. On Yumbles we automatically ask your customers to leave a review and our reviews system drives a high completion rate. Deliver a great service to each and every customer and you should see a good stream of reviews come in.
If you are just starting out on Yumbles and have yet to generate any/ many reviews then one tactic you can deploy aside from giving a great service for each customer is dropping some of your first customers a nice message after their order to check in and see if they were happy. Not only might you learn some useful feedback, and generate a loyal new customer, but this unexpected personal touch can also encourage them to leave a review for you too (you can direct them to the product page to do so).
THE DISCOVERABILITY OF YOUR PRODUCTS
This is about optimising your products for being as discoverable as possible by customers - appearing in relevant categories, as prominently as possible, and also in relevant search results (both on and off the marketplace via our advertising feeds into Google).
Keywords. The presence of keywords in your listing title, description and tags is key for strong discoverability. See our guide to keywords & tagging.
Categorisation. While the Yumbles team determine your categorisation you can increase the categories you are featured in by considering adding seasonal and more targeted product variations. For example if you have a cake and you can make it vegan or gluten free as well as regular recipe consider listing distinctly the Vegan cake variant and the Gluten free cake variants all a separate listings so that they can respectively be included in the Vegan cake and Gluten free cake categories as well as Cakes.
Ranking. The order of products in category pages is determined by our "popularity" algorithm which looks at views, conversions and sales and recency of those. This is again why keeping your core products consistently available year round is so important, otherwise they will lose their ranking.
MARKETING
This is about how to gain more exposure and get your products in front of more customers, beyond influencing your products appearance in category pages and search results.
There are two types of marketing on Yumbles:
1. Getting featured by Yumbles onsite and in their campaigns. Do a great job of having a strong range well listed (great photos are a must), consistently available to buy and deliver great customer service and your products and business will routinely be considered for featuring. Find out more about how to maximise your chances of getting featured.
2. Participate in marketing opportunities available to you. We have a range of ways that you can secure a boost of exposure across the year. See our guide here.
